"MRI scan disappointment"

About: Woodend Hospital / Radiology

(as a service user),

I am a disabled person. A few days ago we received a phone call to tell us I've got an appointment at Woodend Hospital today at 8AM. They said no letter will be sent due to problems they experience.  Yesterday I phoned them to ensure a time and a place. I was assured not to worry and was informed all you need to do is to report to the main reception upon your arrival, tell your name and they will guide you.

So we did. We reported to the desk exactly at 8AM. The staff member behind the desk was very unhelpful. They informed us if there is no letter they cannot help us. I showed the staff member the phone number, they said they didn't recognize it. When in the end I managed to find out the department name, they did guide us to the hospital's different building. We were told to get back in the car and drive to a different location at the back of the hospital. Unfortunately when we got there, the door was locked and no bell to ring.

Then we got back to the main reception. Still no help from the same member of staff at the desk. They didn't try to phone someone and ask. Nothing at all.

When we decided to leave the building to go back home, we met a young man we presume was working at the hospital. He was nice and took my husband (I was left in the car) to the x-ray reception where another staff member checked my name and found an appointment. At this point we were told to sit next to the main reception in the waiting area!!! Why weren't we told that 20 minutes ago?

After a few minutes another member of staff from the department appeared only to tell us we were late and we lost our appointment.

This is the way hospital personnel treat disabled persons! We were extremely disappointed with all this, especially as we can't see any fault at our end. We did exactly what we were supposed to do.

I am suffering a strong pain from the hip & leg. And this was a purpose for the scan appointment. No painkillers prescribed by the GP work. I cannot move and cannot sleep due to the pain. So we were awaiting this appointment with high hopes.

A big big disappointment.
