"Guided us in the right direction"

About: Mental Health Services for Older People – Community (County) / Gedling & Hucknall Community Mental Health Team (CMHT)

(as a service user),

Initially we struggled for any health service to understand the severity of our mums deterioration in her dementia, we had to fight for a psychiatric assessment/help.

After that hurdle (which was so stressful) we were lucky to be provided with weakly support from a psychiatric nurse and then a dementia outreach support worker.

Both helped my mum, although, dementia cannot be mended, but they actually supported her daughters immensely by providing someone to talk to, listened to our concerns and guided us in the right direction. It's unfortunate that this wasn't available earlier to us but that's due to others (GP's etc) lack of understanding of dementia.

We can't thank Jo and Emma enough for being there for us.

Improvements- Have a crib sheet which advises family of all services available for support instead of every single family having to find out themselves where to go for help.

Hi

Sorry to hear about your mother and your family having such a difficult time.

I want to thank you for taking the time to send such lovely feedback, it is greatly appreciated. Jo and Emma are both fantastic hard working clinicians and so glad that they made a difference. I will be sure to pass this onto them.
