"Alnmouth ward"

About: Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust

(as other),

Staff who were not bothered about patients shouting at each other and staff also shouting at patients.  Found staff uncaring who spent to much time slamming doors and believing that they are run off their feet when they're not.

Constantly asking if you want something to eat even when you don't have an appetite.  Keep asking if you want to colour in a colouring book when you don't.

The ward isn't run correct the staff use threatening techniques towards you.

Not the place to be for help because I felt the staff don't know how to help anyone.

My name is Paul and I am the Feedback and Outcomes Lead for the Trust.

I'm really sorry this has been your experience. I will make sure the Alnmouth team know about your feedback and ask them to offer a response.

I hope this will happen swiftly and will post the response here.

Thanks

Please see the following as a response from the ward:

'On behalf of the trust, thank you for providing feedback through Care Opinion. From reading through your comments, it appears that you were dissatisfied with your experience on the ward and that you feel that improvements are required.

I am sorry you felt that you did not receive the right support or felt that staff were not caring. I acknowledge that the feedback you provided does not represent the values and standards that the ward/trust aims to provide.

You reported experiencing slamming of doors and this is being looked at in relation to our fire doors and the soft closing mechanism.

I apologise if you felt that you were over offered food, however the nursing team have a duty of care to make sure that patients are aware of when meal times are and that there is always access to food and fluids on the ward. This will always be balanced with respecting patient views and wishes.

I further apologise if you were offered an activity continuously, when this was not something you wished to engage in. Again I will feed this back to the team to ensure we get a better balance.

Within your feedback you mentioned a use of threatening techniques; I would be more than happy to speak with you directly about this concern if you are able to, so I can understand this further.

All concerns raised within your feedback will be discussed with the team and investigated thoroughly and there will be improvements made through supervision, meetings, training and audits.

Please contact the St George’s site if you wish to discuss this matter further – 01670 501700. You are also more than welcome to contact the complaints department line on: 0191 245 6672.'

Update posted by Skulls (other)

The threatening techniques was regarding the medication that I was given and when they said if you don't take it in tablet form they will go down another route now that wasn't very nice of them. Yes improvements are needed and quickly.
