" Superb Antenatal care and Ultrasound"

About: Croydon University Hospital

I have already written a review on this site to show how thankful I was for the care I received on the Labour ward whilst giving birth in January. However, when I thought some more I felt the care I received throughout my pregnancy was very good. Every single midwife at both Purley hospital and Croydon was caring, kind and professional. My care started with my 12 week scan in July 2021. I was petrified (after a recent missed miscarriage) that this scan would bring bad news. The sonographer was so kind picking up on my nerves and immediately getting started to avoid unnecessary wait. I will never forget hearing her words. "I can tell you there is a heartbeat. You can relax mum." Crying due to relief I was very emotional. The rest of the scan was one of the happiest 20 minutes of my life. Baby was healthy and performing antics! The sonographer wanted to make this as nice for me as possible and it was obvious she loved her job and unborn babies. She even took extra photos because I had missed out on them the last time. This scan was followed by three more at different stages of the pregnancy as at 20 weeks it was discovered that I had a low placenta. I had a different sonographer for the 20 week scan but this one also scanned me at 31 weeks and 36 weeks. She was experienced, kind and considerate always sympathetic towards my nerves each time and informing me as quickly as possible that baby was doing fine. At week 36 , this lady also carried out an internal scan and was able to give me the good news that my placenta had moved up allowing for a natural vaginal delivery. I then saw a consultant who was able to reassure me that everything was looking good. I had several conversations with midwives up until the birth and after because I was anxious. Not once did they lack sympathy or empathy. They were always kind, always encouraging but also professional informing me of anything that needed checking up on. Eg. High glucose. They made me feel as if it was ok to be anxious. They knew my history of miscarriage and wanted to help. If I ever needed to speak to a midwife over the phone, I rarely had to wait longer than the next day for one to contact me. At week 39 I contacted covid. I remember ringing a midwife at Purley hospital in tears. Somehow after the call I was calm and ok. She has reassured me that this was something they were dealing with more and more and most likely all would be well. I wish I could remember all the names of all the midwives, the two sonographer and the doctors. I do know the name of the kind consultant so perhaps he will be able to thank his team of doctors and midwives. Thank you so much for getting me through my pregnancy at a time when I was still grieving a pregnacy loss.
