"Broken wrist"

About: Galloway Community Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

Having a small fall, and a painful wrist which I thought was sprained to start with, it got better - then worse and very bruised, so I thought broken.  A&E at Stranraer was good - not busy, not long to wait, X-ray sorted and got a cast on.  Everyone was kind and helpful.

But no one introduced themselves and there was no advice on exercising while wearing the cast.

I retired from the service a few months ago but didn't work in that dept. yet no one offered to show me my X-ray or even be specific about where the fracture was which I later thought strange.  It's stressful being a patient, even having worked for 35 yrs in health services, and it leaves you a bit bewildered when in A&E.  I normally ask lots of questions but didn't this time - so how much of an issue could this be for people with less relevant experience, knowledge, confidence, etc.?

Dear craterds78,

I am sorry to hear of your recent wrist fracture following a fall. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. I am delighted that you found our team at GCH friendly and that your wait was not too long, however I am also disappointed to learn that no one introduced themselves and that you felt that you were not provided with appropriate advice on exercising while wearing the cast.

I will pass this onto the appropriate team members for their reflection and consideration on how to improve the experience for our future patients.

Thank you once again for taking time out to share your experience with us, should you wish to discuss any part of your care further, please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01387 241690.

I wish you a speedy and full recovery

Kind regards

Alexis
