"3 cancelled appointments"

About: Derriford Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre / Orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I am waiting for an urgent hip replacement and need to see orthopaedics before the op can be scheduled. My appointment with ortho has been bumped by a month 3 times now, most recently with less than 24 hours notice. I admit I did cry a lot but the poor lady on the phone was sympathetic.

I am in constant pain even on a cocktail of some serious meds. By the time I get to see them, my subluxation will be a full dislocation! Although I guess at least that would qualify as an emergency and I may actually be seen by someone...

Thank you for taking the time to post your concerns. Unfortunately, we have been experiencing high volumes of emergency attendances in the department which has led to short notice cancellation of other activity to be able to provide emergency theatre capacity. This is always a last resort and I am truly sorry that you have been affected by these decisions on so many occasions.
