"Poor GP service"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I would like to complain about my previous surgery whom I was with since birth. I have recently moved to a different practice as I feel they failed me on a mental health basis.

In the last two years my mental health has declined rapidly, to the point I don't wash, isolate myself and have thoughts of dying along with other things. Its a very difficult time for me now and I feel the have a part to play in that.

On a phone call recently I spoke to the practice nurse who told me that not every ill had a pill and that they couldn't help me. I did not want a pill, I needed help. I was phoning as I had severe anxiety and thoughts of dying.

As that call was cut short, I telephoned later and ask for a doctor. I spoke to a new doctor who said he couldn't help me either and the call ended. I had to go to a&e during GP hours.  The staff at Hairmyres A & E were brilliant, they gave me plenty of information, set me up with a Richmond Fellowship group and were going to do a CMHT referral.

I left there feeling reassured, that was all I needed.

The surgery have basically just given me whatever antidepressant I mentioned, instead of owning the situation. I have been on around 7 different antidepressants. It has been like Russian roulette with antidepressants.

I'm unhappy with the surgery as I feel their practices have made my illness much much worse. At times I am catatonic.

I would never wish anyone to feel the way I do, not being able to function has become a real health concern.

Dear Jjdd

Thank you for taking the time to post your valuable feedback regarding your experience when accessing primary and secondary care.

Where I note your mixed reviews, I thank you for your positive comments regarding your attendance to Hairmyres Emergency Department. I'm delighted to read that you found staff to be helpful and that they provided you with information and referrals to supportive networks. I will pass on your praise to the staff in the department.

In regards to your GP surgery and ongoing care I would advise that you contact patient affairs at University hospital Hairmyres on 01355 585325 to allow them to direct you to a contact in Primary care.

In the meantime I hope this finds you feeling better and I wish you well for the future.

Kind Regards

Carol
