"Concern over medical student acting as GP"

My daughter took my 18 month old grandson to her GP practice as he has had a recurring stomach problem.

Much to her surprise the "doctor" happened to be a 3rd year medical student (with no apparent supervision). The reason my daughter knew this was that she is a 2nd year medical student and this "doctor" was known to her.

Since when has a 3rd year medical student been qualified to act as a GP? In the 3rd year they are still learning the basics and have yet to start their formative clinical learning.

I believe this is not only a disgrace but also a potential danger to patients. What if this person had wrongfully diagnosed a condition and prescribed the wrong medication, where would the patient have been then? I suppose the practice would have relied on their insurance and used the standard NHS "we will take steps to improve our procedures." I think that this is actually against NHS regulations and should be investigated.
