"Pleased with the level of care"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 3 South

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I arrived into hospital on Tuesday morning. About 4 weeks ago I developed a cough, there was one going around my family so I presumed it would leave in a few days. I then received an antibiotic but after about 10 days I wasn't getting any better- if anything worse. I then decided to get checked out again and the doctor told me to go straight to Craigavon Hospital. It has became apparent that I have a double infection/ double pneumonia in my lungs. As my body is trying to fight off the infection I am on oxygen and beginning to feel a bit of relief. I can't thank the staff enough for their continued support- they are calm, patient and go out of their way to help (for example, getting me coffee!). I admire their resilience despite the abuse  that they receive on occasions, which I have witnessed. The place is spotless, with regular Covid checks and wipe downs. I am pleasantly surprised with the food, there is such a variety to choose from and it is really delicious. The only downsides I would have to my experience so far would be firstly my sleep. As I am in a bay, it can be particularly difficult to get sleep especially if neighbouring patients are awake at night, however I know this is through no fault of the staff. Also, thus far I don't feel I am really kept in the loop as to what is going on with my care. The doctor's have been quite brief and not really explaining what may take place moving forward so maybe a bit more narrative would be helpful. Overall, I am pleased with the level of care I am receiving.

Thank you for taking the time to respond about the care you have received in 3south. I am delighted that you have found the ward clean and the staff supportive. I shall ask the doctors on the ward to ensure every patient is aware of their ongoing care plan.

Wishing you well in your continued recovery.
