"Capacity and Suicidal Feelings"

About: Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

GP sent me to A&E. After 9 hrs locked in a room they sent me to a hub in St Pancras hospital.  No transport. Saw a mental health person. Sent me home after 10 minutes speaking to me. I was suicidal . I had made one attempt in recent past. Told no crisis team support because I have capacity. Told ring crisis line instead. Rang crisis line .Told i have capacity and up to me to kill myself or not. Same as told by hub. Told twice different places. Seems it must be NHS policy that if you suicidal you get no help if you ask for help. Nothing like what the ads say on awareness days - ask for help. You can ask. But they will say up to you.

Dear millimeterjg55

We are very sorry to hear that you had this experience and will look into this in detail if you would like to contact us at Feedback@Candi.nhs.uk.

The urgent and emergency crisis services we run are expected to treat all service users with compassion. This includes Mental Health Liaison in Emergency Departments, our Mental Health Crisis Assessment Service (MHCAS) and our Crisis Single Point of Access (CSPA) 24/7 phone line and Crisis Resolution Teams.

Crisis Cafes, run by the voluntary sector, are also available in both Camden and Islington [links are included below].

It is very important to us that people who live in Camden & Islington feel able to contact us via CSPA if they are in crisis and need an urgent response.
