"Reassuring maternity experience"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as a service user),

I was admitted to Aberdeen maternity hospital in May for the birth of my first child. I cannot fault my experience and I was looked after so well during my labour and postpartum. I can’t thank all the staff enough for all their help and expertise during my time in the triage unit, the midwife unit, recovery ward and Ashgrove ward. Special thanks to Midwives Iain and Rhiannon for helping bring our son into the world- we were so well looked after in the birth pool it was an amazing experience and highly recommend to anyone considering it!

Huge thanks to all the staff who rushed to help following the birth when I feel unwell due to blood loss, this was after handover so didn’t get everyone’s names sorry! Our only complaint would be that my husband didn’t feel reassured during this time.  We understand the main concern was concentrating on helping me but we just feel its worth mentioning for future to remember that the birth partners are witnessing their partners being very unwell at times which could be an awful experience for them, so worth having someone give them a quick reassurance that everything is under control.

Another thank you to Dr Scott our obstetrician for all her help, support and reassuring words whilst we were pregnant during all the extra scans. Thankfully all is well and our son is healthy and thriving.

Thanks again you are all amazing!

Dear Clusa 90,

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your baby. I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback to us at this busy time in your life. I hope you are both well.

Thank you for providing the lovely feedback to those that cared for you.

We will take on board your feedback regarding how partners must feel when their partners take unwell and emergencies arise. We will feed this back to the teams and use this information as a learning point in order to prevent other partners feeling this way.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Regards

Corinne
