I was rushed into Wishaw with suspected heart attack. ! was taken straight away by the nurses who wasted no time in ruling that out and then diagnosing gallbladder pain (which can be very similar). The department was full and the the staff didn’t stop. When i got there I needed a resus bed - they were full and they instantly made the decision to make a room available. I was given pain relief and sent out to wait, which was not ideal but the nurse came out and explained how busy the hospital was. She constantly checked on me as she was calling other patients gave me more pain relief as i waited.
Numerous times they asked for family members to wait outside as the department was so busy, but this was ignored on many occasions. They came out and issued everyone with masks and reminded them over the evening to wear them. To add to all this, the phone lines went down. They kept everyone informed which kept everyone calm. I applaud every member of staff that I came into contact with and I can’t thank them enough for their swift thinking and nonstop hard work.
They worked as a team and it certainly showed
"Great teamwork in a&e"
