"Given options"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Outpatients

(as the patient),

I had a biopsy and ultrasound scan to investigate a recurrence of bleeding during menopause following the COVID virus. I was given the option of no pain relief, a local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic. I opted for a local anaesthetic. The doctor and nurse were very calm and supportive and immediately put me at ease. The relaxed and calm atmosphere helped to make an unpleasant procedure go quickly and efficiently. I was consulted, advised and my choices respected throughout the appointment. The friendly, supportive chat and humour also helped. Following the procedure, I was given time to recuperate and offered water and further pain relief (which I didn’t need). The next steps and choices of treatment available to me going forward were made clear and I have a follow up appointment in 2 months time.
