What I liked
I had a scan on and found my baby had died at four months. I wanted to have it naturally and took Mesopritone 200mgs to aid the delivery of my baby. I was told to call if I started to bleed before 48hrs.Icalled Kennington ward and told them I had started to bleed red blood and was told to go to A/E as they had no beds. Seen in AE by GP who was advised by the ward staff to send me home. I started contractions 2hrs later and had my baby at my mothers 1.30p.m. The plactea didn't come away and I was bleeding heavily. I went back to AE and was seen by a doctor after a 2hr wait. I was sent to the ward nil by mouth waiitng to go to theatre. I waited 29hrs and after much distress was sorted out at theatre. My drip had not been working I was dehydrated and very upset with the staff and service I recieved. I asked to see the chaplin but was told they would only be called in an emergency if someone had died. They left a message on their answer phone and it was Bank Holiday weekend. I left hospital 5hrs after the operation. I felt the staff didn't really care becuase my baby was already dead. If it had been alive they would have done more. I am writing this becuase I feel Kensington ward should be more supportive to women who are in this situation.
What could be improved
The Chaplin should have been contacted as I had spoken with her on the Wednesday and she was more than happy to see me. The medical staff didn't seem to believe me when I said that the placenta was still inside. I could have had the operation at midnight but was told by another doctor, to let nature take it's course. Which was not going to happen as 12hrs had already passed. i was still bleeding and was given an injection to stop the bleeding. It made no difference. I was glad that i had the baby at my mothers as I could have had it in the waiting room of AE.
Staff need to take patients more seriously or not make promises they know they can't keep. This may not be the staffs fault as too much pressure is put on them. Why are more hospitals closing in the area?
