My wife was admitted as an emergency to ward 61 of the Institute of Neurological Sciences in late May following a brain haemorrhage. She was operated on that night and deep into Sunday morning. Whilst the initial operation appeared successful my wife suffered a second bleed just over 24 hours later and sadly lost her life at the end of May. She was only 54 and a dedicated nurse all her adult life, specialising in care of the elderly and championing Anticipatory Care Planning across NHS Scotland. In her patient care she would always go the extra mile.
I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the staff involved in her care for going the extra mile with my wife as well. All the nurses involved treated my wife, myself and my son with complete dignity and respect. Exemplary person-centredness. Susan, Emma, Elisha, Katie-Ann, the two Tracey's and Carol all provided wonderful care and which the hospital should be rightly proud of them. The fact that I was able to be by my wife's side and have her pass peacefully in my arms is of some comfort.I would also like to thank Dr Mustapha, Mr Barrett and Dr Stewart for all they did to try and save my wife's young life.
Lastly to Dr Leday, I can't express how much the fact that you asked my wife if it was ok to open her eyes, typified the the level of dignity and respect that was afforded to my wife, even in confirming her death.
I know that NHS GG&C and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is going through its own challenges at the moment but I will attest to the fact that the staff are of the highest quality.
Thank you
"The staff are of the highest quality"
