I had covid and developed facial paralysis. I attended main ED in the Royal. I was attended to very promptly by the triage staff and had the Lysis team on hand as it was believed I could be having a stroke. I had an urgent CT scan.
Everything was explained to me well as I was extremely anxious. The nursing staff in RATU were under a lot of pressure with patients who needed much more attention than me. I was kept up to date with what was happening with me and a lovely Stroke Consultant, Dr Gordon, came to see me. She also called me the day after I got home and subsequently a few weeks later to see how I was.
I was referred for an USS and had that done within a matter of weeks. Dr Gordon also asked me to call up to the stroke day unit when I wasn’t feeling great to have me checked over. She has been very attentive. I work in the NHS and I cannot fault the treatment I received from the nurses and doctors when I went to ED. I am proud to say they are my colleagues! Thankfully I didn’t have a stoke but developed Bell’s Palsy.
