"Terrible night staff"

About: Worthing Hospital

I came into A&E at 6.30am waited 5 mins or more in the waiting area before being called to be seen. The staff in A&E dept were incredible! 11 out of 10. I was looked after from the moment I arrived. I was offered a drink and toast after having investigations, before being moved into the ambulatory dept at 12pm and looked after by lovely Leah a Scot girl who was very professional at her job and who offered me reassurance regarding my medical situation. From then on it’s been hell. I was moved on to another dept which was off of the Ambulatory ward almost like a his/hers ward. It was very clean and had 5 lovely ladies with various ailments. I was greeted with a “yeah she can come in ‘ere we only take females”. I had a couple of bp’s taken that was it no more since, offered a evening meal which was very nice. I was seen by 2 doctors who were very thorough said I was going to have to stay for a couple of days before anything could be done as it’s the week/end. I was offered no gown until I asked at about 7 o’clock and had to ask for one as I literally came in without anything. It’s 4am right now and I have slept 1.5 hours. I was woken by an alarm I think it sounded like a bp alarm just now. I woke up and got out of bed to find the nurse who was slouched in her chair on her phone who could clearly hear the alarm but oblivious to her surroundings. When I asked her if she could turn the alarm off she jumped out of her chair and said”of course” like I had surprised her.

In the male ward I noticed what sounded like a patient with some sort of mental health condition and a female who sounded very much like the same. They were both very vocal and I felt sorry for them. There was quite some hustle and bustle until around 11:30pm and then what sounded like a commotion. There was shouting, laughing, doors banging, a patient being moved to another ward right next to me by the loudest doctor or porter you’ve ever heard. Banging, crashing totally disregarding any of the patients who were trying to sleep. I lay in my bed wide awake completely unable to get any rest at all. I waited and waited for a good 15-20 mins before it became unbearable. I got out of bed and walked to the open reception area to find at least 10 staff laughing and joking almost like it was a party. I was so cross I asked if the “row could be stopped”. A very tall member is staff came up to me and said “unfortunately no!”, so I replied by saying “then at least shut the double doors inbetween the 2 wards and walked off. The doors were shut but within 10 mins 3 members of staff we on the inside the ward by the double doors laughing and joking. I got out of bed and said” pls be quiet I can’t sleep” one of the members apologised and they all scuppered out. I’m exhausted! Night staff have been in and out of rooms where I think breaks were held right next to the ward continuously laughing and shouting. So disrespectful to patients. It’s almost like being back at school. While the cats away!!!
