"Passing responsibity between hospitals"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

My mother had a fall and either broke or dislocated her shoulder, she has been uneasy on her feet since her 3 mini strokes.

Took her to NSEC who advised we dont do X-rays go to rake lane, who done the x-ray advised it is dislocated and sent her back to cramlington (NSEC) who turns out do have an xray department but would rather have a women in considerable pain in her 60's driven needlessly between 2 hospitals.

How hard is it for one hospital to do asses and then pass the responsiblity?

My mam is in agony and is now wound up on top of the pain as she feels as if the NHS couldnt give a monkeys about her and are just looking after their wait times.

Dear Youngy83,

I’m deeply sorry to read that your mothers recent experience of care with us has not felt like a positive one – thank you for taking the time to share such important feedback with us. In order for your mother care to be appropriately looked into we have a number of options available to you.

Firstly, and with your mothers consent, you could email us at patient.experience@nhct.nhs.uk with her name, date of birth and home address and I will share your feedback directly with those involved in your mothers care for their learning.

If you would like to raise a formal complaint about a Northumbria Healthcare service here is the link to further information relating to our complaints procedure: https://www.northumbria.nhs.uk/patients-and-visitors/it-matters/how-to-make-a-complaint/

Alternatively the details for The North of Tyne PALS service can also be found here: https://www.northumbria.nhs.uk/get-involved/share-your-feedback/patient-advice-and-liaison-service-pals/

We will absolutely be guided by you in terms of which of the options outlined above you feel is most appropriate.

Should you wish to contact us, I will keep an eye out for your email.

I wish your mother all the very best with her recovery.

Take care,

Heather
