"Kind and careful staff for bone marrow aspiration"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Haematology

(as the patient),

Previously people had informed me that this is a very painful procedure. I therefore embarked on this experience with trepidation.

The doctor was very careful. He explained the procedure to me and explained what was going to happen throughout which meant there was no surprises and helped me to deal with it.

The nurse was very kind and conversed to me throughout (everyday conversation, families, interests, the weather) which helped to take my mind of it. In fact I only experienced a few moments of pain, each only lasting a few seconds.

The doctor indulged my interest showing me the samples and explaining a little about them.

I hope that everyone who needs this procedure has the same experience I did. However, whatever their experience I don't think it is kind or helpful that people exaggerate for dramatic effect.

Dear Spooky 74. Thank you so much for taking time to post your experience.

I am so glad that your experience was positive. We do try hard to attempt to make it as relaxing and friendly as possible.

I will feed back to the Dr and support nurse that their care was appreciated
