"Adult son and lack of help from Drug and Alcohol Single Point of Access Rhondda (Barod)"

About: Rhondda Cynon Taf Locality Office - Cwm Taf Local Health Board

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was referred to DASPA over two months ago. His worker contacted him and visited him one or two weeks later. This is the first time my son has actively tried to engage with drug services for his cannabis dependency and it was promising that he asked for the help. His specialist therapist informed us that if he engages with the key worker then there is a good chance of gaining health funding to access longer term rehab. For the first time in a long time my son had hope.

However, fast forward a month or so and he has been let down so often by his keyworker not turning up to appointments, not phoning when they said they were going to phone, and the process of trying to chase them up, that he feels resigned that there is no help for him.

I can’t express enough how upsetting it is for a young adult to have this hope taken away from him.

Last time we spoke to DASPA the key worker suggested that they haven't been able to get hold of my son, that the call had gone straight to voicemail. However this has not happened to anyone who has tried to phone him. Furthermore, the key worker had his dad and my number. I tried phoning and texting but I received no response.

I  am shocked and appalled that vulnerable people are left feeling helpless by the organisations who are supposed to be there to help them. I want something done about this so it doesn’t happen to anyone else but I cannot find information on their website about who to complain to.
