"I felt involved in the care of my son"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Blossom Ward (Paediatrics) Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

I arrived into Paediatrics ED on Friday as my child's temperature was very high and started to develop a lot of rashes. When we first came in there was a long wait and there were already people sitting on the seats outside.

I know it’s a small area outside the paediatrics but it would be helpful if there were more chairs outside it as I was standing for a long time with a child in my arms which wasn’t the most ideal situation.

After a while we eventually got speaking to one of the doctors and they were very helpful as they told us that they will need to run some tests on my son.

I felt involved in the care of my son because the doctors were explaining everything very thoroughly and making sure that I was okay with the decisions they came to. The doctor listened to all my concerns and answered all queries that I had.

So far everything has been good they brought us down to Blossom in the evening as we spent most of the day in the ED (emergency department).

The nurses on the ward have been very good as they are helpful and supportive, they have also offered me tea and biscuits which was lovely.

At the moment my son is being treated and I am grateful for all what the staff have been doing. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with this feedback about your experiences in Craigavon Hospital. I've very sorry you had to wait so long in the Emergency Department and that you had to stand. I was working in the Paediatric Ward that Friday and was aware that there were a large number of patients came to Peadiatric ED that morning.

I'm very pleased that you found the staff helpful and they listened to your concerns and were supportive. It sounds like you are very happy with the medical and nursing care that he has had and hopefully he will not have to stay long in hospital.

I wish you and your family all the best, David.

Good morning

Thank you for your positive feedback, the emergency department is currently undergoing renovations to improve its service and space and we are always challenged with overcrowding in the Emergency Department so we appreciate your comments. We hope your son is recovering well.

Many thanks Christine
