"Worried by recent fertility consultation"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Regional Fertility Centre

(as a service user),

I have had awful experiences with communication from the Belfast Fertility Centre. I can’t even begin to describe though I really should.

My assigned doctor does not appear to know a lot either but also doesn’t appear to want to consult. I asked how I could increase my chances of conceiving naturally while waiting on IVF, and I was told to take folic acid. Folic acid is not to increase fertility per se, it’s recommended to take it so that if you get pregnant your baby doesn’t develop defects.

I felt the doctor was reading from a script. I was also told to get an urgent smear test, worrying me unnecessarily.

Good afternoon,

I am really sorry to hear about your poor experience. I would be really keen to hear from you if you would like to call the RFC and ask to speak to me.

Thank you

Conor McDowell
