(as a service user),

My mental health took a turn for the worse a few months ago and I took an overdose, I was told my blood test was ok and I can go home ,I  was new to living in the Borders and I didn't know where I was and how to get home, it eventually cost me a significant amount in a taxi fare to get myself home, which I can't afford due to being medically retired, I had to cut back on food and heating because of this. I was simply told by NHS Borders that that's their policy.

I am very upset that I had no response and I am scared this happens again, as I can't afford huge taxi fares because this has a big impact on my mental health and nobody should have to go through this, I would like a meeting with someone to discuss this issue which would possibly help me and others

Dear Waltzjz66, Thankyou for using Care Opinion. I am sorry you were unhappy at having to pay for a taxi home. Unfortunately we are unable to provide transport home unless people have significant mobility problems which would require them to need ambulance transport back. We would always supply use of phone etc and always be happy to help phone friends and relatives to facilitate transport home.
