"Superb care after road traffic incident involving…"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

I was admitted to A&E by Ambulance having been knocked of my cycle by a large deer causing trauma to chest, shoulder and back. Once assessed (CT) and pain under control in A&E I was transferred to Trauma Team on Hurley Ward where I was cared for and received Physio support in prep for discharge. I was under RBH care for 2 weeks. Every aspect of the care and support was excellent and focussed on my personal needs both on the ward and in anticipation of my discharge, adapting this as I become more mobile. My discharge went smoothly with all aspects coordinated by the Nurse supervising my care on that day. Every member of staff introduced themselves to me and explained how they would be supporting me during their shift. Staff were clearly stretched on this busy ward - however, I never felt this pressure impacting on my care. Staff encouraged me to regain my lost mobility progressively and this I have continued as I recuperate at home. A huge thank you to all of the staff who were involved in my assessment, treatment and care.
