"Recovery is possible!"

About: CGL Birmingham / Central & West Hub

(as a service user),

I was drug and alcohol dependant for 34  years. I was drinking alcohol daily and injecting heroin and crack daily. I was also prescribed a very high dose of methadone. Every day was a struggle and I would wake up on a mission to get money to fund my use.

My family were still in touch with me but the relationship was non existent due to my use.

When my CGL worker would ask me how much I'm using I would always reply to her "how long is a peace of string".

I knew I had to make some big changes as my health was in a bad way. My CGL worker got in touch with Stacy from the rehab program 'Offender to rehab' and they worked together to get me in to a rehab centre where I completed my detox and rehab program.

I have been free from drug and alcohol dependency, for 42 days and that is an amazing achievement that I honestly never thought would be possible!

I have now got my family, my health and my life back.

There would be no way I would of been able to do this without my CGL worker Katy, she has been there for me through the whole process and never gave up on me and is still supporting me now.

I am also really thankful to Stacy from west midland police who helped me gain access in to the rehab centre.

Katy and Stacy have worked together to give me all the support I needed to get me through the journey

I am so thankful for all the support I have received

I hope that others can be inspired by my story and know that recovery is possible!

Dear recoveryispossible,

Thank you for taking the time to leave us some feedback about our services, we really appreciate it. My name is Tasneem and I'm part of the team that listens to feedback like yours.

Firstly, it is very much appreciated that you went into such detail about your recovery. I was really able to understand how your journey with drugs and alcohol began and how much it has impacted you. I'm sorry to hear that your dependency with drugs and alcohol resulted in daily struggles, I can only imagine how difficult that must have been.

However it is these struggles that allowed you to realise how much you needed the support and I'm so glad you did because you are clearly in such a better position in your life today.

I'm also glad that the rehab program and your key worker were helpful and were there for you throughout your support. I'll make sure Katy is aware of the kind things you've mentioned. I know she'll be so happy to know that you wouldn't be where you are without her, that's amazing feedback.

Most importantly, it's amazing hearing that you are over 42 days alcohol and drug free, that is great! You should be so proud of yourself and the progress you've made.

Thank you for writing that you hope others can be inspired from your story and that recovery is possible, I agree and I hope others reading this feel encouraged to get the support they may need.

Again, thank you for your feedback and I wish you the best.

Kind regards,

Tasneem
