"Excellent Care - NHS Fife Dietetic-Led IBS Service"

About: Fife Community Services / Nutrition and Clinical dietetic services General practices in Fife Lynebank Hospital

(as a service user),

I requested to be referred to the Dietetic-Led IBS Service as I was having a lot of problems with my IBS symptoms. I had been recently diagnosed with the Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI) condition and put on enzymes replacement therapy by my GP.

The dietician was amazing, a good listener and very supportive. He advised as a starting point to increase the enzymes and explained how they worked including when to increase them for example when eating a big meal. He also put me on a tablet that helped with the acid build. I almost instantly saw a difference in my condition and had less acid build up which had stopped me sleeping well and made my thirsty all the time.

I still had some IBS symptoms so the next step was to cut out wheat for 2 weeks. This was the main turning point for me as my IBS symptoms disappeared within 24 hours.

I have been discharged from this service as a pain free, happier, less stressed person who can do the normal things including not needing to find rest rooms in a hurry which was very stressful. Another benefit with using this service it has helped me to stay away from my GP and other health professionals as I am now feeling well and hardly have any IBS symptoms. I also have a better understanding of EPI and IBS and feel confident in managing my own symptoms. Please can you thank the dietician on my behalf?
