Last year I attended a long awaited ENT appointment at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy.
I have an array of symptoms but the most pressing issue was pain in when eating and swallowing. I explained I have acid reflux and a hiatus hernia. The doctor put a camera down my throat and told me there was no issues. I then tried to explain that I have a painful sensation in my ear every time I first start to eat, They interrupted me to tell me overweight people feel better when they lose weight. I attempted to clarify if acid reflux can cause ear pain triggered when eating and they interrupted me again to tell me overweight peoples reflux gets better when they lose weight. They didn't ask any more questions , and told me they would write to my doctor and they started writing. After an awkward moment waiting for them to maybe ask me some more questions as this was only 5 minutes at most into the appointment I realized they had ended the appointment and had to show myself out without so much as a bye. I felt so belittled. I have many health issues contributing to weight gain and felt like they were wanting me out of the door as soon as possible without any investigations. I its now nearly a year later and my throat is in constant agony and my ear pain is even worse,
I felt belittled and humiliated and like I wasn't worth he time of day because he deemed me overweight.
