"Lack of patient centred care"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Cardiology Golden Jubilee National Hospital NHS Forth Valley / Covid 19 Vaccination Programme

(as a carer),

My elderly father in law, with unstable angina and other health related issues, is due to go in for an angiogram to the Jubilee Hospital, referred from NHS Forth Valley cardiology department. He understandably needs to have a covid test done beforehand but they are insisting this is done at the Jubilee hospital, which will involve a 85 mile round trip lasting over 3 hours (if we are lucky) on hospital transport.  My husband is unable to take him as he is working in London.

After several phone calls to the Jubilee they have stated that there are no other solutions to this and that they can’t coordinate covid test results done by another hospital and therefore he will need to travel on a bus to get this test done which will take less than 30 seconds to do.

This is not patient centred care and will cause a level of distress and anxiety to my father in law.

Dear Queen1978

I couldn't agree with you more - this doesn't feel very person-centred and we should be able to do better for your father-in-law. I haven't been able to speak to the team at the Golden Jubilee yet but I hope to soon and we'll work together with you and them to make a plan.

Can you get in touch with us please, as suggested by my colleague Catherine Mondoa in her response?

I am really sorry this has cause you to feel worried and frustrated. I would feel exactly the same were I in your shoes. Sadly, Covid has presented us with a lot of challenges, many of which haven't been easy to fix, and there are a number of reasons why the test centre might want to do the test themselves. However, I am optimistic we can come up with a plan that will be much easier for you and will also work for the cardiology team at the Golden Jubilee.

Looking forward to hearing from you

Best wishes

Catherine

Dear Queen1978

Thanks for getting in touch with us this morning. I am very glad we were able to arrange a local PCR test for your father-in-law before his angiogram. We are working with the Golden Jubilee to make this possible for every patient, where we can.

Your feedback has helped us make improvements in our service and we are very grateful for it. Thank you, and we hope all goes well with the test when the time comes.

Best wishes

Catherine
