"Potential patient safety risk"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

I received a Royal Mail delivery card advising a fee to pay for something they had tried to deliver on 14th May 2022, normally I would ignore anything like this but on this occasion I was expecting a parcel from a friend in Switzerland and thought it could be they had under paid the postage.

I paid the £2.50 fee for delivery and waited for the item to be re delivered, it arrived on Wednesday 18th May, but it wasn’t the parcel I was expecting but an appointment for breast screening.

My concern isn’t the £2.50 but more if I hadn’t paid I may have missed a valuable appointment, and more importantly how many other letters have gone out to others with no postage paid.

I have brought this to your attention as I feel that this is a patient safety risk and some people may get missed for this vital and essential service which as we know early diagnosis is essential for treatment.

I hope you understand why I felt it important to bring to someone’s attention.

Thanks
