I wanted to put a view across regarding screening for Gynae cancers. I feel there is improvements happening all the time to screening for cervical cancer which is fantastic.
I would like to see staff trained in screening for all Gynae cancers whilst a patient attends for a smear test could the staff ask the patient about symptoms of pain, unusual bleeding, bloating or any symptoms that worry them. A lot of women don’t know to check themselves to monitor for vulva cancers or pre cancer cell lesions and this could also be very beneficial if staff also examine the patient’s whole vulva and not just swab the cervix.
I feel the Gynae departments are extremely busy and these appointments could be very successful in early detection of a number of Gynae cancers, and overall improve on women’s health and relieve the pressure of the department. if staff doing smear tests followed a new protocol for a whole gynaecology health check at each appointment.
