"Sensitive and gentle nursing from ward 17 team"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 17)

(as a relative),

Yesterday my 89 year-old mother passed away in ward 17 of Monklands University Hospital. Her final days were spent in a frame of mind that was calm and accepting.

This was a blessing for Mum and for all of the family and came about, in no small way, due to the remarkable care and attention that she received from the nursing staff in ward 17.

Mum immediately felt safe in the ward as she had been admitted to Monklands before and had always had a very positive experience.

She was in ward 17 for 10 days and was cared for by a number of nurses, including Pauline, Lauren, Melissa, Lisa and Angela, all of whom were so helpful and genuinely caring.

I know that the ward, like every other in the NHS, was short staffed, but I only know this because I was told - there was no evidence of it in the sensitive and gentle nursing that Mum received.

I commend and thank everyone involved from the bottom of my heart.

Dear UBfamily,

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such kind words and thoughts for our clinical nursing team and equally, for describing your Mothers experiences within Ward 17 at University Hospital Monklands. I am really sorry to learn of your Mothers death but very reassured that the environment was right and that she received the Person Centred care approach that we strive to deliver within NHS Lanarkshire for all of our patients.

I very much hope that as a family you manage to find peace and comfort after such a difficult time in your lives. I will ensure that I share your kind words with the Senior Charge Nurse and all of her staff within Ward 17 today and I am certain that your post will be very well received with the team as they continue to recover from the Pandemic.

Very best wishes to you all,

Gav Dolan

Senior Nurse

Medical Directorate, UHM
