Yesterday my 89 year-old mother passed away in ward 17 of Monklands University Hospital. Her final days were spent in a frame of mind that was calm and accepting.
This was a blessing for Mum and for all of the family and came about, in no small way, due to the remarkable care and attention that she received from the nursing staff in ward 17.
Mum immediately felt safe in the ward as she had been admitted to Monklands before and had always had a very positive experience.
She was in ward 17 for 10 days and was cared for by a number of nurses, including Pauline, Lauren, Melissa, Lisa and Angela, all of whom were so helpful and genuinely caring.
I know that the ward, like every other in the NHS, was short staffed, but I only know this because I was told - there was no evidence of it in the sensitive and gentle nursing that Mum received.
I commend and thank everyone involved from the bottom of my heart.
