What I liked
I was very impressed with the care I received when admitted to the labour room. I was taken straight into my own private room (with a shared bathroom) and very well looked after by friendly, reassuring midwvives. The food provision on the postnatal ward
What could be improved
My whole after birth experience was not good due to a severe lack of staff!! Whilst arriving on the ward, and labouring were not pleasant, I felt safe and confident that the maternity staff, anaethatists, drs and paediatric people knew what they were doing and that i was well informed. After I had been to recovery however, I was unceremoniously dumped on a ward of post and prenatal patients (unable to move due to an epidural) with my newborn baby in a cot out of reach. My husband was told to leave and I was given no advice on how to feed, or look after my baby. I felt very alone, and when I pushed the button for assistance and someone eventually came, I was tutted at and made to feel very inadequate. Despite having a check sheet of what should be done before discharge, I was left to my own devices, in tears, unwashed hating every minute of being a new mum. There are not enough staff, and those that are there are so overworked that they are forgetful, unsympathetic and generally harrassed!!
