"Wonderful staff"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Radiology (X-ray)

(as a service user),

I went to the North Devon Hospital for a CT scan to check a change in my bowel habits.  Concurrent with that, I also had a chest x-ray.  I was impressed by the service from beginning to end.

Reception was helpful, friendly and efficient, got me a wheelchair and, when no porter was available, got a security guard to push me to the CT suite.  He was a delight and there was lots of laughter.

The scan, and following chest x-ray, were conducted with clear instructions and staff checking on me at the points I had to wait.  During the scan I had an extravasation, where the dye leaked into my forearm muscles.  I was treated for that and, again, regularly checked.  I was also given written and verbal information should the leak later not recover on its own.

After all the procedures which were efficiently and kindly undertaken, reception called for my ride home.

Each department I visited were friendly and welcoming, kept me clearly informed of every stage of the procedures.  I could not have wished for a better hospital visit, and am impressed that the NHS staff, overwhelmed as they are, remain so friendly, reassuring and - well, just wonderful!

I am a Diagnostic Radiographer with many years experience of working, and imaging patients, in all areas of the Radiology department. I am also responsible for the governance in Radiology and so make sure that we are compliant with the many ionising radiation regulations that dictate what we can and can't do in radiology, keep the patients and staff safe and ensure we are practicing safely. I also deal with our policies and procedures and oversee compliments, complaints and quality.

Dear maemoore,

Sorry for the delay in responding to your feedback.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such positive feedback, it's always nice to see where patients have had a good experience of our service as well as receiving good care and information when things don't entirely go to plan like with your unfortunate extravasation; I hope this is now resolved.

I will pass on your kind feedback to the teams involved who will be very pleased to receive it.

Kind regards

Gill
