"Lengthy wait at A&E"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I attend the accident and emergency department on Saturday.

I was seen by triage nurse and advised about lengthy wait to be seen by Dr .

The waiting room was full , ambulances were everywhere and you could see other sick patients waiting ahead of me .

While I would like to raise this as a concern as waited over 13 hours to be seen ( the next morning ) I think your hospital is running very unsafe .

I would comment on a positive note how helpful the reception staff were , the Charge Nurse for the hospital tried to keep everyone updated and informed and provided drinks to vulnerable older patients.

The triage nurse Angela reviewed me and kept me up to date and when seen was dealt with professionally with the Dr.

I commend these poor staff for the terrible conditions that they were working in . It must be very stressful for them and while I’m not impressed with the time I had to wait I recognised genuine staff trying so hard .

Hats off to the hospital charge nurse , Receptionists , Dr, ambulance staff and nurses working so hard in terrible conditions

Dear Mac33

Thank you for your feedback on your recent attendance to our A & E Department within University Hospital Wishaw via Care Opinion.

I am sorry to see you had such a long wait for treatment; unfortunately Covid has had an impact on our services and staffing levels. Hopefully we will soon be back to our normal waiting times soon.

I am delighted you had a very positive experience from our staff in the unit; from our receptionist to all staff involved in your care, this will give them immense encouragement.

Once again, apologies for the delay in your treatment and I hope your recovery is going well.

Kind regards

Jean
