"My sons accident"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Day surgery University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was playing at the park and split his head open. We attended wishaw general hospital A&E he was seen straight away and made comfortable. All the staff who treated my son and spoke to us were so lovely. They made him feel a bit more at ease about the situation. After a doctor checking his wound they advised he would need to attend the Royal Childrens hospital Glasgow the next day to the plastics clinic for him to be put to sleep to have it stitched back up. When we attended the next morning and taken through again all the staff were so lovely and made him feel comfortable. When discussing being put to sleep the doc who dealt with us explained everything so well and in and way he could understand and made him feel less anxious about it all. When going into surgery all the staff made him laugh and took his fear away. Our whole experience from when we attended A&E to the day surgery all the staff in both hospitals were so lovely and treated our son so well we would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. You made the traumatic experience a little bit easier to deal with.

Dear Wilk2810

As the Lead Nurse for the Day Surgery Unit I am extremely pleased to learned that both yourself and your child had a positive experience with one of my units. Making the experience less traumatic certainly has a lasting impression on your child.

I will certainly pass this onto the teams involved.

Kind Regards

Ang McLean

Acting Lead Nurse

Good morning Wilk2810

I hope your son is recovering well from his accident.

Thank you for taking the time to share his journey through A & E of our University Hospital Wishaw then onto the Royal Childrens Hospital, Glasgow for his treatment.

You both must have been extremely anxious and I am so happy our staff were able to deliver the care and compassion to help put you both at ease. Our staff work tirelessly to deliver excellent Person Centred Care to all patients; I can see they are getting it right.

It will be my pleasure to share your very kind words with the staff involved in the treatment of your son.

I hope it will not be too long before your son is back out playing in the park.

Best wishes

Jean
