"The wonderful staff at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Acute Medical Receiving Unit (AMRU) University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

I had to take my very elderly mother to Accident and Emergency at Hairmyres Hospital because her GP was concerned about her high blood pressure and breathing difficulties. From the moment we walked in, all staff were caring, kind, considerate and made my Mum feel very much at ease. From A&E we were sent to the Medical Assessment Unit where a student nurse and a junior doctor were particularly attentive and gave my Mum the treatment she needed. They explained everything clearly and answered all her and my questions without making us feel daft. There was lots of laughter in what could have been a very serious situation. My Mum loved that. They also gave us tea and sandwiches. My Mum was allowed to go home after several hours. We are very happy with the care she received and so grateful that there is a good NHS in Scotland.

I don’t often have contact with hospitals and often hear bad stories about them so I wanted to tell a good story.

Dear Jhmw

I'm sorry to read that you mum has been unwell and has required to attend Hairmyres Emergency Department. It must have been a worrying time for you both.

I'm delighted that you found staff to be caring, kind and considerate which must have been reassuring for you that your mum was in 'safe hands'.

The staff in the ED and Medical Assessment Unit strive to provide the care you describe and will be pleased to receive your positive comments. It is especially nice that you mention the junior doctor and student nurse who were particularly attentive.

I hope this finds your mum feeling better and thank you again for taking the time to post your feedback.

Kind Regards

Carol
