I was admitted to the labour ward. I requested an epidural and this was given to me by an anaesthetist called Laura. Laura was absolutely lovely, she explained the process, risks and benefits clearly prior to gaining my consent.
I was then transferred to theatre for an emergency c section and Laura gave me a spinal block for the procedure. Laura was so compassionate and kind, she again explained everything to me in detail.
Throughout my c section Laura and her male colleague (sorry I forget his name) were right by my side, reassuring me and caring for me. I will never forget how safe these two people made me feel in what was the scariest experience of my life. They were so compassionate and reassuring throughout the procedure, listening to my concerns and intervening where necessary to ensure I felt most comfortable. Laura also offered to take some pictures of us and our baby boy, which are memories she captured for us to hold forever. We wouldn't of even remembered to get these pictures as we were so caught up in the moment, so we are so grateful Laura reminded us and took these for us. Both Laura and her male colleague are absolute assets to the Western Trust, I will never forget them and how safe they made me feel.
