"The care of my child with Autism and learning disability"

About: Iveagh Centre

(as a parent/guardian),

My son developed mental health problems in December. He is only 13 and had to be detained under the mental health act and admitted to the Iveagh assessment centre in Belfast under the care of Dr McKenna consultant psychiatrist. It was a very traumatic time for our family. The professionalism, skills and care for my son was outstanding. I can’t thank the nurses, care workers, domestic staff and all the members of the MDT enough for caring for my son as much as I do. We had to travel from Co.Tyrone a few times a week to see our son but the importance of this regional unit is crucial. There has been a significant increase in kids being diagnosed with autism and with that comes an increased risk of developing mental health problems. Services in the community don’t always meet the needs of these children and general A&E isn’t always appropriate when they become acutely unwell. We are lucky to have this assessment unit

Dear Learning disability awareness,

I am the Assistant Service Manager for Iveagh and want to thank you for taking the time to share your kind and thoughtful feedback on your experiences with the Iveagh team. The staff in Iveagh were delighted to hear your positive feedback when I shared it with them. We continuously strive to do our best for all the families and children who use this service and your feedback will help to inform positive changes we can make to improve the experience further.

best wishes

I have linked in with our food provider to review the range of food options within our service and continue to consider this alongside feedback from families. The next stage will be to consider ways to improve the menu choices that are presented within the service to have more input from parents carers.

best wishes

Michael
