"You have given me hope and a value of life again"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Douglas Grant Rehabilitation Centre

(as a service user),

I have been, and currently still am, a patient of the Douglas Grant Rehab Unit in Ayrshire Central hospital in Irvine, Ayrshire. I am due to be going home soon and felt compelled to leave a review of my experience here.

Quite simply, I would be lost without them, both physically and mentally. I have been a patient in here for 10 months and went from being paralysed and non mobile to walking with a Zimmer frame and also tackling stairs. As well as this I have also lost 7.5 stone as I was treated as a bariatric patient.

The nursing staff are truly lifesavers, and don’t gain the recognition they deserve. All of them are a brilliant team, and I feel as if I am part of the family. The physio team are also miracle workers, and while they push you to strive for higher goals, they know each patients limitations. Slowly over time these limitations will be heightened and your rehab will improve.

All the staff, from the domestics to the doctors, are an amazing bunch of people and without them my life would be worthless so I must thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

Once I am back to fitness I would very much enjoy coming back as a hospital volunteer to help where possible as a way of payback for all the care and compassion they have shown me.

Thank you. You have given me hope and a value of life again. Long may it continue for years to come.

Dear AyrshireDJ

Thank you for taking the time to provide such lovely feedback for all of the staff within the Douglas Grant Rehab Unit, which they were delighted to receive.

It was heartening for them to know that you felt so well looked after during your stay with us over the last 10 months. I share your admiration for the hard work and dedication of our teams in circumstances which, at times over the past 2 years, have been far from ideal.

All of the staff within the Ward have clearly demonstrated the qualities we value in NHS Ayrshire and Arran in providing you with person centred care.

We are very grateful to you for kind comments and wish you all the very best with your ongoing recovery.
