"I was finding the experience quite overwhelming"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was taken into accident and emergency department wishaw general.

I was alone and scared as there is no visiting due to the risks of covid.

It was so noisy and busy, nurses and doctors rushing up and down constantly, patients being brought in and out.

Not all the staff had much time to attend to all the patients and everything was done so quickly.

However i do remember one of the nurses as she did spend time with me even though she had a list of things to do. She closed the curtain and stood holding my hand and talked to me for a while. I was then made a drink and offered something to eat. It was so nice for someone to notice that i was finding the experience quite overwhelming. I was made to feel at ease and a lot less worried about being alone.

Good morning Gobbledee

Thank you for sharing your feedback on your recent experience whilst attending A & E at University Hospital Wishaw via Care Opinion.

Yes, things have changed due to Covid which has affected us all and I can only sympathise with you regarding the visiting restrictions at present in our Acute Sites at what must have been a very stressful time.

As you could see, our staff are kept extremely busy attending and caring for patients; I am so happy to see one nurse in particular noticed your anxiety and was able to support and comfort you.

I hope you are on the mend, thank you again for sharing your story.

Kind regards

Jean
