"Treatment from the start has been excellent"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Cancer Services North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

In 2008 Dr Down was not happy with the PSA result. A biopsy was arranged at Barnstaple, cancer cells were found, CT & brain scans arranged quickly and carried out. A meeting in Exeter decided on Radiation treatment rather than an operation to remove prostate hormone treatment & radiation to be carried out in Exeter.

37 trips to Exeter.  This was tiring but the radiation staff were excellent. Ongoing monitoring of PSA levels carried out with regular meetings with Dr Martinez or Dr Sheenan. Dr Sheenan was really good more like a friend than doctor

About 2 years ago my monitoring was taken over by urology dept.

Recent test shows increase in PSA level.

Mrs Dring referred to oncology who suggested new scans.

These have been arranged in the next two weeks.

I can only say that my treatment from the start has been excellent.   The only improvement I could suggest is that it is a pity that there is no bone scanner at Barnstaple. nor can radiation treatment be done there. A train and bus trip to Exeter is more difficult as you get older, especially with prostate problems.

Dear slidesm57

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to leave such positive feedback regarding your investigations and treatment at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, both at Barnstaple and Exeter sites. I will ensure your feedback is passed onto Mr Misra, Lead Consultant Urologist, and also to Ansu Manoj, Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist in urology. I fully appreciate the commute to Exeter for your radiotherapy treatment is very stressful and adds to the burden of your condition and I wish too that we could offer that service at Barnstaple for all our patients.

May I take this opportunity to wish you well for your ongoing investigations and treatment.

Kind regards

Paula
