"Superb maternity care at Stoke Mandeville hospital"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I booked with Stoke Mandeville when we found out we were pregnant with our first baby. I had care from community midwife at my GP surgery the  Simpson Centre. She was amazing. She was always so friendly, approachable, had a big smile of her fave and was professional. She made me feel welcome and also my husband and mum when they came to the appointments with me.

I started labouring at home and then when I got to the hospital I was already 5cm dilated. Our midwives, Toni and Charlie were incredible, they were calm and confident, they talked us through everything & gave us support and superb 1:1 care. I progressed very fast & within 2 hours of arriving to the hospital I gave birth. My husband also felt supported and we owe the ladies a huge thank you for helping to safely deliver our baby daughter. Toni was due to go home at 8:00 pm but she stayed until our baby was born at 8:58pm. The ladies went above and beyond and I will always be grateful for them, as they encouraged me to continue to have the labour & birth that I'd always dreamt of.

Unfortunately my placenta was retained and so I had to go to theatre for a removal. I had a MOH but the team were incredible. They responded to my emergency situation promptly, professionally and communicated well with myself and as a team to overcome the situation I was in. Charlie the obstetrician was amazing, she made me feel calm and reassured that everything was going to be OK. Nikki the anaesthetist was superb, she was talking to me the whole time and giving me reassurance that I was going to be OK. The entirety of the theatre team were brilliant and everyone should be proud of themselves, as I'd heard it was a super busy night on the labour ward, but we wouldn't have known, because everyone was calm, smiley, communicated well, super caring and I put all my trust in them.

The postnatal team were also friendly and the paediatrician who did my daughter's NIPE was great.

I am a midwife myself at a London trust and naturally I would compare care, but the team should feel proud as they are a credit to the trust and I hope this feedback is received by them.
