I am being treated by the Urology staff of United Lincolnshire Healthcare Trust. I received a call recently from the Outpatient Appointment staff and accepted an appointment at Pilgrim Boston Hospital for a few days later, for the next stage of my care. No details other than the date, time and venue were given to me. All was well until I was asked later for the last time I had taken my daily Warfarin tablets, replying that it was the day before the arranged appointment. At this point, I was told that no treatment was possible as I needed to have stopped taking it about 5 days prior, which was 2 days before the appointment was made. The member of staff dealing with me was very apologetic and I explained that I thought that the whole visit had been a waste of time and even worse, had deprived someone else an appointment in these times of our overstretched health services. This had done nothing to ease my apprehension regarding the visit in the first place.
The appointment has now been rebooked, albeit 2 weeks later than originally planned.
