My mum is waiting for a hip replacement and is struggling with her mobility. She recently saw a physio at her GP practice who discussed a walking aid that my mum needs.
The very next day she got a phone call from the outpatients department at Musgrave Park Hospital to say that she could come and collect her walking aid.
I brought her up to the building, but with covid regulations I didn't accompany my mum in to her appointment. She went in to the outpatients department and the receptionist told her to go to the Withers unit. This meant a long walk down a corridor for mum who finds any walking very difficult. There was nowhere for her to stop and rest and she found that she was really in pain by the time she got to the right unit.
She was very impressed by how quickly the help was available but it would be better if she had known to go in the correct door as that was her first time there, and she would have avoided such a long walk. While for many this corridor might not seem long, for a woman who can hardly take more than a couple of steps, it was very tough. And by the time she came out to me waiting in the car, she was in a lot of pain and very tired from the effort it took.
Could there be a sign or some communication to help others in my Mum's situation?
I want to thank the physio and the team for such prompt support, and the walking frame they have given her is very helpful for getting around the house.
