"Long waiting times"

About: Kilkeel Primary Care Centre

(as a service user),

I phoned Shanlieve surgery in Kilkeel today on my fathers behalf as he is elderly to request a call back from a Doctor to discuss his health as we have some concerns. I was told to call back next week to see if I could secure a slot for the following week for a call back, so I won't know for 2 weeks if the doctor will even be in a position to phone me regarding my fathers health.

I am freaking out here as I know whatever treatment or consultation is recommended will no doubt be months or even years away which will force us to look at paying for private treatment.

I feel maybe we should just allow the government to collapse the NHS now so we can move on to a private healthcare system which works, rather than allow people to suffer anymore.  It seems obvious the NHS can no longer can provide effective healthcare. Urgent action is required either way.

I am sorry to hear of your experience and that your Father is unwell. In respect of the GP Practice, the Trust is not responsible for GP Practices, therefore I would advise you to link back with your GP practice to discuss your concerns in the first instance please?

I am sorry to hear of the current pressure your father and you are under, particularly with reference to accessing your GP and concerns about the potential long waits. In my role I provide analysis of these important issues to the relevant leaders in the health service and your story highlights the impact on people and their families very clearly. All stories relating to a particular GP surgery are shared directly with them to ensure your story is shared with someone who can change something locally.
