I recently had a fall, and unfortunately broke my back.
The paramedics did a great job at home, and took me to the Emergency Department in ARI.
There was a delay in getting into the department because they were full, but the paramedics looked after me with great care in the ambulance whilst we waited - offering gas and air, and also offering to get a medic out to give morphine if I needed it.
Once I did hit the emergency department though, my care continued to be faultless, despite how busy they obviously were. As always, it was a team effort to get everything done, and what with all the pain relief I can't remember everyones names. But I must give a shout out to Darren the senior charge nurse who saw me instantly, and immediately set my mind at ease, with his professional manner, his thorough assessment, and his clear explanations of what to expect over the next few hours. Jamie the consultant who came to see me very shortly after. Again, very thorough with his assessment and explanations, but beyond that, he has such a lovely manner, such a calming influence and that really helped me settle. He was also very attentive in getting me quick pain relief.
I also met Pam, who helped move me about to various tests and scans, and again, despite clearly working on a hectic day, she was so calm and kind and funny.
There were, of course, lots of other staff, all playing their part - the domestics, ensuring the place was spotless, the radiographers, other nurses. Each and everyone were faultless. I know the hospital is under a lot of strain at the moment, but it's a credit to the department that the staff clearly stay focussed on giving great care to their patients.
Pleased to report I'm making a steady recovery now.
