I was given an endoscopy following the routine bowel test that they send to "men of a certain age". From start to finish, the service provided by the teams involved has been exemplary: patient-focused, caring and genuinely professional.
On the day of the procedure, I was surprised that I was in and out again in exactly 2 hours, although due to the nature of the procedure, it seemed longer. The surgical team worked together efficiently and carefully, checking and cross-checking, each taking a part in the technical and safety aspects of the procedure, but each also taking personal responsibility for patient care: all made me feel valued and safe, with questions and encouragement as and when required. At each step, I knew what was happening and why, and this continued into the post-op care where I was given information (and tea'n'toast) and continuing monitoring with the same care and polish as in the theatre.
