I was supposed to have a surgery for my severe endometriosis at Preston Royal hospital after being put on a waiting list for almost a year. The surgery was meant to happen in December but after waiting for almost 6 hours with stockings on in hospital, I was told its been cancelled due to an emergency. A few weeks later, I was given a date in January (had to go again for pre-op and covid test) and the hospital rang me 2 hours before attending to the hospital. My appointment had been cancelled again due to shortage of beds.
A few week later, I had another date for a surgery, but again they rang me (this time, the day before) saying it's been cancelled due to a shortage of staff, even though I had to waste my time again going for a covid test. And the 4th time - I went for the surgery (supposed to happen in February) and attended to hospital. I waited around 5 hours then a doctor came to me saying there was a misunderstanding with the procedure and they couldn't do it that day. They sent me home again, saying I need to be seen by a specialist instead.
I'm not from Preston and these kind of trips to go to hospital cost me a lot of money and time to get there for nothing. Also, my family have wasted their days off because of me, including me taking time off work. I received a call from someone about the waiting list, informing me that I have been discharged from it. To be put back on I will need to go through the process again, including consultations, waiting times and the actual surgery. I'm still waiting and now with agonising pain basically on a weekly basis. I'm taking strong painkillers, which I need to take tons of before they ease my pain to have some how a normal day. I have contacted PALS with still not knowing anything....
