"My son's care"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Paediatric Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

Both of my sons have a lifelong condition for which they require regular blood tests and ultrasound scans. My 4 year old had built up such a fear due to these appointments that it was an incredibly stressful experience for him every time. We then were advised to start going for regular play sessions at the hospital with Jamie to try and ease the anxieties my son has. We started meeting with Jamie around September/October last year and my son has just recently had his first positive experience getting his ultrasound scan done. He was still a bit apprehensive, but once the scan started he actually remained still and with the distraction of Jamie he was smiling and speaking away with him. I must also praise the lady who did the scan as she was lovely and very patient with my son! Jamie has been incredible and I just want to thank him so much for the time and support he has given to both of my sons. The difference in my oldest in a hospital setting compared to before we started seeing Jamie is amazing. He would be so reluctant to go to appointments but at the mention of Jamie he would be so excited to go and would run to meet him at the hospital entrance. As a parent, it is hard to see your child stressed out at these kinds of appointments but I was really grateful to have Jamie there for support. I really can't praise him enough!

Dear EA2830

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your recent visit with your youngest son for his ultrasound scan.

It is so difficult for children and their families when having to undergo lifelong investigations and treatment which are not very pleasant but necessary to ensure they receive the correct care. As you have experienced children can develop a real fear of attending hospitals as they know what is coming when they do and that is so hard for a parent to manage when all you want to do is protect them from harm. I am so glad that Jamie has been able to help your sons develop coping strategies to help with these fears and make their frequent visits less stressful.

Jamie is one in a million and has such an amazing rapport with the children and I will ensure that he receives a copy of your feedback to acknowledge what a difference he makes

Thank you again for taking the time to leave feedback
