"Polar opposite experiences"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

I was in Accident and Emergency a few weeks ago and I have to say it was horrendous. I did not want to bring my daughter back in this time.

The last time we were in we arrived in the early afternoon and did not get seen until late evening . My daughter had a high temperature and I asked the nurse for paracetamol and I just got told they were very busy today and nothing else. I asked a different nurse for paracetamol for my daughter and I had to wait an hour before getting anything, I felt like we were not a priority and pushed aside.

They said after the 6 hour wait that there was no paeds doctor on and that was why everything was taking longer if they had of informed me of this earlier I would have went to Craigavon.

I have to say I felt the staff were not nice at all in A&E they completely ignored my distress.

However, this time in A&E it was the complete opposite. We were seen to quickly and I was kept in the loop about everything that was happening.

The staff were great and I had no issues.

The Daisy Ward is lovely it is always nice up here, it does not feel like a hospital. It is so bright and colourful for the children getting tended to.

The staff are all good and they explain everything.

I have no issue this time.

Dear Shaqq75,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us on Daisy Ward. I am really pleased to hear that you and your daughter were well looked after and kept informed throughout your stay on the Children's Ward. The team will be delighted to read your kind words which I will share with them. It is regretful that you did not have the same experience in ED on this occasion.

I hope your daughter has made a good recovery and I wish you both well.

Kind regards,

Jodie
